SUPER SOCCER

2010

COACHES' PACKAGE

Make sure to read the tournament rules as there are some important changes.

This year at Sr. Super Soccer the HS Divisions will be divided into Double AA and Single A categories.
This splitting of the division will hopefully address some of the one sided scores  we sometimes see between teams, which have different skill levels.

Double AA Division Schools: Larger NWT High Schools (approx. over 150 students)

Single A Division Schools: Smaller NWT High Schools (approx. under 150 students)

Single A schools that are very competitive and skilled should move up to Double AA Division.

This can be done by the team's coach and/or the Super Soccer Tournament Whip.

Coaches must use the "Registration Form" (see main page link) and have form signed and dated by the Principal of their school.

All coaches must carry with them, the proof of age of all of their players during tournament play. Teams that cannot prove the age of their players upon demand will forfeit their games and maybe removed from the tournament.

This year the goalies may use their hands on a pass back from their own team.

Proof of age is (PHOTOCOPY) of one of the following:
Birth certificate; Health care card; Passport; Driver's License.

Player Eligibility:
The category the player is eligible to compete is determined by the age of the player on Dec. 31, 2009. Proof of age for each player must be provided by the coach upon demand. This request may only come from the tournament whip.

Categories For Jr Super Soccer 2010
- Boys 14 B (Grade Eights) - Girls 14 B (Grade Eights)
- Boys 12 A (Grade Sevens) - Girls 12 A (Grade Sevens)
- Boys 12 B (Grade Sixes) - Girls 12 B (Grade Sixes)

B) Use of over aged of Players: There has sometimes been in the past some teams who have asked that they be permitted to use over age players in some categories in order to field a team. For example, some of the smaller schools may have only 5 or 6 players who maybe 12 and under and one more who is 13 years old and is too old for the age group. Should this team play in the 12 and under category or the 14 and under category, valid arguments can be made for both sides and I am not going to list them or get into this discussion at this time. The Super Soccer committee has debated this dilemma for many hours each year. As it stands, if this case is similar to one that you as a coach maybe in, you must put your team in the 14 and under category. Some special cases have been made in the past to some smaller schools who are competing in Super Soccer for the first time. This however must be approved by the tournament committee before the tournament entry deadline.
The tournament committee goal is not to try to favour some teams over others, we are trying to have as many students play soccer and have a competition where the playing field is fair for all teams. (You can call Fraser Oliver at St. Pat's HS (w-873-4888, h-920-4209, e-mail fraser_oliver@mail.ycs.nt.ca) if more clarification of this point is needed.)

C) Goalie Punting/Throwing the ball back into play once the ball has entered the crease area. Punting/throwing rule by the keeper from INSIDE THE CREASE now means the ball cannot go across centre without touching another player or the floor. However, ball now does not have to stay at or below waist level. It can be thrown or rolled out of the crease as long as it doesn't cross half in the air.

D) Players in the high school divisions must be regular full time students. Players must play for the school they attend. (Some exceptions have been made in the past for some of the smaller schools/communities to combine players to make one team.)

E) Billeting - Teams wanting to be billeted in the schools will have to contact the following whips and make their own arrangements. These arrangements will not be made through Sport North. Rooms will be offered on a first come first serve basis. Contact the following people to book rooms for the following Divisions:

Tournament Dates and Times:

Jr Super Soccer - April 22nd to April 25th

Sr. Super Soccer - April 28th to May 2nd

Teams are expected to be in town ready to play Thursday night at 4:00pm. (If many out of town teams are arriving in YK late Friday night the tournament does not have the gym space or time to accommodate all the games. The tournament committee would also like to guarantee each team a minimum of four games and not the traditional guarantee of three games. This has been a strong request from many out of town teams since the cost of travel is so costly for only three games. If this is going to happen we certainly need the extra time.)

Deadline of Registration:

Jr Super Soccer - April 9th - Friday noon

Sr. Super Soccer - April 16th - Friday noon

By this date Coaches must register their team with Fraser Oliver and pay your tournament fee of $130.00 per team to Fraser Oliver.(Cheques can be made out to St. Pat's High School) This one team fee will both register your players with the NWT Soccer Association and register your team for the tournament.

Ball Type:

Our student-led school chapter has risen to become a well respected community organization. Educating and creating awareness about the consequences of drinking and driving is our main focus. However, our program is based on the philosophy of making the right choices and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Young people can make a difference. We have proved this. Help us combat drinking and driving. Be part of the majority.

Impairment starts with one drink. Be a Zero Hero.

It is our hope that all athletes enjoy their stay here in Yellowknife competing in high spirits and good sportsmanship. Good luck to all!
