SUPER SOCCER

COACHES' PACKAGE

To Coaches:
This is an information package for the upcoming Super Soccer-2000 tournament. Make sure to read the tournament rules as there are some important changes.

Rule 1 All coaches must carry with them, the proof of age of all of their players during tournament play. Teams that cannot prove the age of their players upon demand will forfeit their games and maybe removed from the tournament.

Proof of age is (PHOTOCOPY) of one of the following:
Birth certificate; Health care card; Passport; Driver's Licence.

Player Eligibility:
The category the player is eligible to compete is determined by the age of the player on Dec. 31, 1999. Proof of age for each player must be provided by the coach upon demand. This request may only come from the tournament whip.

B) Use of over aged of Players: There has sometimes been in the past some teams who have asked that they be permitted to use over age players in some categories in order to field a team. For example, some of the smaller schools may have only 5 or 6 players who maybe 12 and under and one more who is 13 years old and is too old for the age group. Should this team play in the 12 and under category or the 14 and under category, valid arguments can be made for both sides and I am not going to list them or get into this discussion at this time. The Super Soccer committee has debated this dilemma for many hours each year. As it stands, if this case is similar to one that you as a coach maybe in, you must put your team in the 14 and under category. Some special cases have been made in the past to some smaller schools who are competing in Super Soccer for the first time. This however must be approved by the tournament committee before the tournament entry deadline.
The tournament committee goal is not to try to favour some teams over others, we are trying to have as many students play soccer and have a competition where the playing field is fair for all teams. (You can call Fraser Oliver at St. Pat's HS (w-873-4888, h-920-4209) if more clarification of this point is needed.)

C) Players in the high school divisions must be regular full time students. Players must play for the school they attend. (Some exceptions have been made fin the past for some of the smaller schools/Communities to combine players to make one team.)
D) Billeting - Teams wanting to be billeted in the schools will have to contact the following whips and make their own arrangements. These arrangements will not be made through Sport North. Rooms will be offered on a first come first serve basis. Due to some construction at some of the Yellowknife schools we are quite limited in the number of rooms for billeting this year. If you need rooms call early. Contact the following people to book rooms for the following Divisions:

Tournament Dates and Times
: May 4th to 7th - Teams are expected to be in town ready to play Thursday night at 4:00pm. (If many out of town teams are arriving in YK late Friday night the tournament does not have the gym space or time to accommodate all the games. The tournament committee would also like to guarantee each team a minimum of four games and not the traditional guarantee of three games. This has been a strong request from many out of town teams since the cost of travel is so costly for only three games. If this is going to happen we certainly need the extra time.)
